Record the installation time and date, install files into the system, record installation date and time, find file overlays and installation scripts on a remote file system. You can do a lot with the post installation routine in a kickstart file.

We all know how Google Maps Streetview works. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could move around without going from one still picture to another? That’s what Microsoft promises in their latest attempt to topple the king of all things search. Once they drop the silverlight, I think Microsoft can expect widespread adoption. Hopefully it’s only for their previews.

Good thieves use expensive equipment that works and they don’t get caught. They’re like ninja’s in that no one really knows if they exist.

With the power of rsync, it’s quite easy to accidentally erase, overwrite, or otherwise destroy your data with one slip of the keys. Even if you supply the right switches, you might leave off a slash or put one where it doesn’t belong.

Google recently updated the look & feel of their image search. Once you click on an image, instead of framing the source website, you see the image front and center like a Polaroid picture. Meanwhile the source page is displayed behind the image with a grey-ed out tinge to it.

Facebook does not provide this functionality and it does not allow any kind of app to covertly do this kind of monitoring either. If an Application claims to provide this functionality, you can report that application for abuse.

The usual fix for this is to re-export or restart nfs services from the server side. You could try unmount -f to force the mount point to unmount or reboot the client. It gets harder when multiple users are online. If someone has a home directory or a remote shell open using a directory under the nfs mount root, good luck fixing it on the fly. The worst situation is where two NFS file systems are mounted in a parent-child relationship.

The main highlights are the support for 64-bit applications, and the new graphics based on the Tango standard. But it’s hard to say what the best change is. There’s just so many!

It’s in beta right now, and you’ll need to apply with your gmail account before you can use it, but it looks like a great learning tool that may lure many young minds into the world of software development. As the tools get more powerful in the future, the quality of apps created using Google App Inventor should grow.
